I am a GP. I have been a doctor for over 12 years working in hospitals as a junior doctor and for the last 6 years as a GP. The NHS is hugely important to me and I am keen to improve the health of the nation.
The government has announced that Leicester Hospitals NHS Trust will receive an investment of £450m to fund a massive development programme. The plans for the county include a new maternity hospital and a dedicated children's hospital at Leicester Royal Infirmary. As well as these two new additions, the Trust will also use this new round of national funding to build two 'super' intensive care units. This will give them 100 more beds, almost double the number currently available for patients.
The new investment comes in addition to the £33.9 billion increase in cash funding for the day-to-day running of the NHS being delivered by the Government over the next five years.
