In December 2024 Keir Starmer appointed Lord Mandelson as the UK's Ambassador to the US.
Mandelson was given this role, despite his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein - who was convicted in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor - being public knowledge and known to Starmer at the time.
In September 2025 Mandelson resigned his position after emails between him and Epstein were released by the US Department of Justice.
At the end of January, further emails were published which show that, while Business Secretary in Gordon Brown's Labour Government, Mandelson forwarded Epstein internal Number 10 emails with market-sensitive information during the 2008 financial crash.
Following this, the Prime Minister admitted in PMQ's on Wednesday 4th February, that he was aware of Mandelson's friendship with Epstein at the time of appointing Mandelson as Ambassador.
