Did you know it’s not illegal to marry or have sexual relations with your first cousin? Yes, really!
I’m concerned about what this means for children with birth parents who are first cousins as we know they are TWICE as likely to be born with serious birth defects and genetic disorders.
I’ve presented the First Cousins (Prohibited Relationships) Bill, which would ban first cousins from entering into marriage, civil partnerships, and sexual relations - as other countries have done.
