I have long argued for an annual cap on the number of people who are able to apply for asylum to the UK via safe and legal routes, and believe that we need councils across the nation to say how many asylum seekers could be accommodated, and then a cap agreed and voted on in Parliament.
The previous Government was consulting on this before the election, but it seems the Labour Government is against this principle.
