Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, has hailed the work of two community heroes who have stepped up as the driving force behind a volunteer led scheme to provide support and assistance to vulnerable people in the north of the constituency.
Angie Cain and Helen Crouch are the co-ordinators of the Coronavirus Community Response Team in the villages of Ratby, Groby, Bagworth, Thornton and Stanton under Bardon who are leading a team of more than 50 volunteers who have signed up to food shopping, prescription collection and delivering care packages.
Dr Luke said “This is a time which has brought out the very best in our communities and it is very clear that Angie and Helen, along with their team of volunteers, epitomise that community spirit in exemplary fashion.
“It’s wonderful to see villagers pulling together at a time which is, especially for the vulnerable, one full of worry and uncertainty.”
The Community Response Team, which is also supported by local churches and councillors, started their work collecting non-perishable food from members of the public, but has since been awarded £24,000 in grant funding by Leicestershire County Council to continue their work supporting the elderly and frail in the area.
Angie Cain, Coordinator for the villages of Ratby and Groby said “The amount of support we have received from the residents of Ratby and Groby has been amazing. We will continue to support our most vulnerable residents and now have the ability to support those that need the most help during this difficult and challenging time".
If you think you can help the Coronavirus Community Response Team then please them on 0116 2393768 or 07368 213599.
Dr Luke said “If you know of anyone else doing amazing things in the Hinckley and Bosworth constituency then please do let me know, it’s so important to give our fabulous volunteers the credit that they so richly deserve.”
