With Parliament now back in full swing, here's my weekly update, covering just some of my work for Hinckley and Bosworth this week! From HGV driver shortages, to support for older workers, it was great to work across a wide range of topics in Parliament, as well as the Constituency in addition:
- During the urgent question on HGV driver shortages, I asked Transport Secretary how our local logistics companies can feed back to him with their suggestions and insights into the current problems - watch here: https://bit.ly/2Xux1fm - you can read more about my work on HGVs here: https://bit.ly/2XxDnuw
- Whilst the Heath Secretary gave his statement on the Government's winter Covid plan in Parliament, I asked him about the mixing of vaccines for those who are receiving a booster jab, and whether there is now enough data to drop the 15 min wait for those receiving the Pfizer vaccine - his answer here: https://bit.ly/3hFLEnk
- Met with a minister from MHCLG to discuss solutions for improving funding for Leicestershire
- Asked the Department for Work and Pensions in Parliament what it is doing to help support older workers who are looking to reskill or retrain - pleased the hear that the Government is very much aware of the issue - watch here: https://bit.ly/3AjFC2V
- Discussed cancer services at Health and Social Care Select Committee, covering detection, treatments and dealing with the backlog
- Met the Department for Food, Rural and Environmental Affairs to discuss conservation, the kept animals bill and Twycross Zoo - see more about their planned conservation centre here: https://bit.ly/3hIHBGF
- Met OFCOM to discuss my body image campaign, and the forthcoming online harms legislation
- Attended a roundtable session with Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership, along with fellow MPs, to discuss how we can support the region
- Casework this week included: healthcare, transport and HGV licences
- Discussions at surgery this week included: Health and Social Care Bill, local infrastructure, as well as how schools can promote anti-bullying, and what I can do to support them
As ever, if you are experiencing an issue I may be able to help with, or if you are a business or charity and you'd like me to come down and help, you can email me at: luke.evans.mp@parliament.uk
