Dr Luke Evans MP has met with the Environment Agency to press for updates on the investigation into the large-scale fly-tip discovered near the A47 Leicester Road and to seek assurances that the impact on the local environment is being fully assessed.
Following concerns raised by residents over the summer, Dr Evans recently met with Martin Pope, East Midlands Regional Director of the Environment Agency, to discuss progress on the investigation, ask what action has been taken so far, and what steps are being taken to understand any environmental consequences arising from the incident.
During the meeting, Dr Evans sought clarity on the current status of the investigation and whether all appropriate measures are being taken to protect local communities and the surrounding environment.
Dr Evans also used the meeting to raise wider concerns about flooding across the constituency, an issue he has repeatedly highlighted both locally and nationally. Discussions focused on how flood resilience can be strengthened and how funding can be improved to better protect vulnerable villages from future flooding events.
Dr Luke Evans MP said: "Residents rightly expect answers about how this fly-tipping incident happened, what impact it may have had on the local environment, and what action is being taken to prevent it from happening again.
"That is why I met with the Environment Agency to press for updates on the investigation and ensure concerns raised by local people are being heard.
"I also took the opportunity to raise the issue of flooding, which remains a major concern for many communities across Hinckley and Bosworth. We need to ensure that vulnerable villages have the protection and investment they need.
"I will continue to follow up on both of these issues and hold the relevant authorities to account until residents receive the answers they deserve."
Dr Evans has committed to continuing engagement with the Environment Agency and other relevant organisations as investigations progress and further information becomes available.
