Two weeks ago the Government finally announced its deal to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius and pay to rent the shared US-UK military base, Diego Garcia.
One of my principal concerns is that the Government made this agreement without EVEN TRYING to challenge the non-binding decision in the courts!
The Labour Government didn't try.
Instead, they capitulated.
The agreement is now set to cost the United Kingdom up to £30 billion over the next 99 years – that is, assuming inflation stays at 2%… it is currently 3.5%.
The Labour Government needs to explain exactly why they felt they would lose, so the country can see if they were cornered or simply complicit.
