In last night's debate on the Government's proposal for mandatory digital ID cards, the Secretary of State seemed confused around what 'mandatory' means for people who don't want a digital ID card or are unable to have one, such as the digitally excluded.
I asked for clarity, but only received an answer on what penalties might apply to employers - not the individual.
Can you work out what she meant?
At the start of this month I wrote to the Government outlining my opposition to mandatory digital ID cards and urged them to drop the proposals. I'll also be following up on this question from last night.
