Today, as Shadow Health Minister, I was pleased to speak in support of the Rare Cancers Bill which allows research to be targeted at some of the rarest cancers, such as brain or pancreatic cancers, so that no one gets left behind.
While by one definition these cancers are classed as rare, in total they account for around 20% of diagnoses and impact 1 in 2,000 people.
This Bill, which is a great example of cross-Party working, represents patients who are often under-researched, under-represented and under-acknowledged. I was honoured to play my part in this legislation.
The Government is bringing forward its cancer plan in the Autumn, I sincerely hope this is part of it.
