I know that young people are already facing significant challenges, from rising unemployment to degrees that do not always offer the opportunities they were promised, and I've talked about the plight of young people in many of my speeches.
So, against this backdrop, the Government’s decision to freeze student loan thresholds - effectively increasing the amount graduates will repay - places yet more pressure on a generation already feeling the strain.
The Conservative Party has set out its plan to tackle rising student loans and challenges facing young people, particularly around unemployment (which stands at 16.1% for those aged 16 - 24).
These policies include:
- Abolishing real interest rates on Plan 2 student loans
- Fund 100,000 more apprenticeships
- Encourage young people into work with a £5,000 First Job bonus
