Yesterday I responded to a debate on the National Lung Cancer Screening Programme, and was able to raise the difference that Community Diagnostic Centres - like ours in Hinckley - are having on early detection and diagnosis.
Since NHS England launched the targeted lung health check programme in 2019, 1.5 million checks have been carried out.
And in that time, between 6,000 and 7,000 cancers have been detected.
This matters because roughly 75% of these cases of lung cancer have been identified at stage 1 or 2, the earlier stages, in comparison with fewer than 30% before the programme started.
