What the evidence says on taking paracetamol when pregnant

The evidence we have to date says paracetamol does not cause autism and, what’s more, we have concrete evidence of the dangers of not taking paracetamol when it is needed.

As a doctor, many people have asked me questions about the stories in the news around pregnant women taking paracetamol.

Here's an explainer on everything from the known risks of untreated pain or fever in pregnancy, to the study in Sweden of 2.4m people, and the important distinction between causation and correlation.
