Today I asked the Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, to discuss the Black Sea grain initiative with G7 counterparts in a meeting later this week.
Estimates from the United Nations (UN) suggest that the initiative has indirectly saved over 100 million people from falling into extreme poverty. I was pleased to hear the Secretary commit to working alongside Turkey, a key partner in the initiative, to ensure the continuation of grain exports.
I had previously expressed concern about the security of such exports which were being blockaded by Russia: Bosworth MP asks what plans are in place to secure grain exports leaving Ukraine | Dr Luke Evans MP
